Father’s Day Quilt

Father’s Day is coming up and no better occasion to make a quilt, more specifically, a lap quilt.

I selected dark colors to make it more masculine (and to hide food stains ;)).

As I’ve stated before, I love batiks! I decided on a blue and black color palette. My stepfather is a pastor so I selected a pattern that he will like. The next post will be the reveal.

Mother’s Day Quilt Finished!

She is completed!

The front!

The back!

The quilt as you go technique takes times. I don’t think I saved time as opposed to quilting the traditional way. It was much easier to quilt each individually block but you do have to connect the blocks and then decide if you want to hand stitch the back or machine stitch which will create a stitch line to the front. If you decide to stitch with the machine, you have to know ahead of time if it will disrupt your quilting design. I kept my quilting basic, straight lines, so it was not a problem for me

The most important thing is that my mom loved the quilt! Maybe a bit too much because she doesn’t want to use it, only look at it! What can ya do!

Mother’s Day Quilt-Part 2

I have decided to try a quilting technique I’ve never tried- quilt as you go. This quilt will be queen size so it’s a lot to quilt on a home sewing machine. Quilting as I go will allow me to quilt each block at a time. I used a variegated thread for the quilting.

All the quilted blocks below! I kept the quilting pretty basic for time sake.

After quilting each block, I sewed the blocks together in rows. Once the rows were made, I connected all the rows.

The next post will show the finished quilt!

Mother's Day Quilt

I have been quilting off and on for years and I have never made a quilt for my mother so I decided to resolve that this year. I have been planning and buying the fabric for a few months. The store I usually shop was closed because they moved. It was an opportunity to shop a new store and I bought some online. I love me some batiks, it's all batiks except for one print.

The blocks arranged on my design wall. I ended up rearranging a couple of the blocks.

Next, trim all and sew together. Im still working on an idea for the back.
